Name: His real name is Ardin FireSong but Blade won’t tell you that. In fact, he’s almost forgotten his own name, since it’s part of a distant and lost past.
Nickname: Blade
Gender: Male
Age: 27
Class: Rogue (sort of a fallen knight, too)
Alignment: Er. None, in a way. Blade has no interest in any gods and would rather spit in their face than worship any of them. Value wise, I'll call him Neutral...But he's somewhere in between that and Chaotic.
Appearance: Blade has the tawny coat of a mountain lion (aka cougar). The soft tan color is darkest across his back and then fades down into a creamy white on his belly. In the right light, sometimes faint, darker brown stripes can be seen arching across his back and hips. Thick, dark brown feathers cover the end of his tail, allowing him to swiftly change direction while flying. Despite his large body, Blade has all the lean agility of a cougar. He is very acrobatic and occasionally enjoys doing flips in the air—either for fun or to show off. His thick fur gradually fades into the dark brown of his bird half. In shadow, his feathers are dark with faint traces of gold; but in the sunlight, Blade’s feathers glitter with gold highlights. His eyes are golden and slant upwards. He has a deadly curved yellow beak and yellow feet with vicious black talons. He might be called handsome, except for the scars that streak his body, leaving fur- and feather-less thin white streaks. One crosses from just above his right eye at an angle down past the left side of his beak. Twin scars form an “X” across his chest. The others cross his flanks in rough lines and crosses. Blade is naturally very lean and agile, all tough muscle and sinew. He has strengthened his natural skills with hard training and now can hunt down nearly anything—including other griffins.
Height: 30”
Length: 8’ (or 96”)
Weight: 120 lbs.
Type of Gryphon/Griffin: Cougar x Golden Eagle
Rank: Roamer. Blade refuses to even consider ever joining a grex.
Mate: None. (He did…Once.)
Friends: None.
Parents: His parents are dead. That’s all you need to know…And that’s about as much as Blade cares for them.
Siblings: Dead.
Offspring: Only one of his young survived—a son named Karr Evith. Blade doesn’t know what happened to him.
Personality: Blade was honest and honorable when he was younger—at least, as far as was able. His morals have since slid to almost nothing. He is not against force breeding and if he sees another griffin alone and enjoying a kill, he’ll kill them simply to get their meal. His parents were cruel, but he thought he had outgrown that after he ran away and found a beautiful young mate and a new grex. He was wrong. Now he trusts no one and nurses his hate and thirst for blood. He’ll bring down prey just for the fun of it—not because he needs to eat. Strangely, Blade has still retained some of his old charisma. It hides behind a hard surface and iron walls, with his natural friendliness and compassion. It’s the rare and bold griffin who dares try to befriend Blade, though. He shuns friendships like flies. Naturally cautious and wary, you aren’t likely to find Blade in a wide-open space. He knows he has more enemies than he can count, and he expects them to eventually come for him. Aloof but even-tempered, he rarely shows any emotions. Excessive emotion is one thing that Blade hates. He rarely feels anything himself and can hardly stand griffins who throw their emotions about. He especially hates particularly perky and friendly griffins—probably mainly out of jealousy for their happiness.
History: When Blade was young and still in a grex, he had a mate and friends. That all ended when the grex was attacked…while he was away. He came back to find his mate dead and several of his friends severally wounded. Enraged, he asked after the attackers. They all mentioned another grex. Blade, knowing it would be suicide, went off after the other grex. Why should he care if he lived or died? His love was dead and his life felt over. He hid for several days from the other grex, skulking about and watching them. At last, judging the time right, he flew as high as could into the sky above the grex. Screaming his rage, Blade took off and dived down on the natuk. The natuk looked up just in time to see Blade dropping on him…too late. Blade snapped his neck and then proceeded to rip and claw the natuk apart. The other members of the grex attacked him for killing the natuk. They taunted him and ripped him to shreds. Blade fought back, but he was badly outnumbered. Somehow, he managed to take off and fly away, still harassed…
He found himself bleeding his life out on grass some miles from the grex. Not sure how he got there—or why he was still alive, Blade managed to limp to water and slowly heal. As he sat there, he nursed his hate and grief. One thing that kept repeating in his mind was the taunts that had been thrown at him by the other grex. They said that the natuk of the grex had long desired Blade’s mate (even though he had his own). He had organized the raid with the other grex’s natuk. When the raid came, the natuk pulled Illana, Blade’s mate, aside as if to protect her. They laughed and said that he’d never had any such intention. When Blade headed back to his own grex, he found himself locked out. The natuk claimed he had deserted the grex when they were attacked…That he was a coward and didn’t deserve to be a guardian of the grex. His friends drove him out…But Blade did manage to speak to one. He asked after his mate, if what the other grex said was true. His friend wouldn’t meet his eye but did say that they didn’t find Illana until after the raid. By then she was already dead. Everyone assumed she was killed by the other grex…
Hate merged into a terrible force in Blade. He hunted close to the grex, learning to stay absolutely still and stalk so slowly that no other griffin saw him. When he got too close to the grex, he was driven off…until he became an expert at hiding his presence…and his scent. And then one day it all paid off when he was able to kill the natuk of his former grex. A crime unimaginable to another griffin, Blade once again barely escaped with his life. Hated by his former friends, hunted by friend and foe alike…Blade traveled as far away as he could in an effort to escape. Unfortunately, a guilty conscience is harder to escape.
Quests Completed: None...yet.
Extra/Other: Blade would definitely be an assassin if he were human.
